TAKING THE HIGH ROAD with Richard Gase

On April 27, 2010, Richard Gase will begin a 5-month, 3,100 mile journey along the Continental Divide Trail from the Mexican border to the Canadian border. He is a man with plan, a dream and a purpose;  to complete the final trail of the Triple Crown of long distance hikes and to raise awareness of the vitality of nature and the value of connecting teens with the natural splendor of wild places.

In the words of Richard Gase…

“Life on the the trail is amazing…  despite the mental and physical demands, life is easy.  You can sleep on any breathtaking ridge or isolated forest you want- and do it for free.  You drink clean water and breathe fresh air and by the end of the trip you are in the best shape of your entire life.  For the cost of five months food and gear maintenance you’re awarded with views that most people only see in photographs, memories to last a lifetime, and the knowledge that you just accomplished something that seems to defy all logic.  It’s hard to say how truly empowering that is.”

“While teaching math in the public school system I was  disappointed to discover just how many teens have had few if any experiences in nature despite being surrounded by so many amazing mountains and canyons.  So, for my next trip, the Continental Divide Trail, I hope to help raise money to put
more teens in nature where they can grow and learn more about what they are able to accomplish as human beings.   I will be working with an organization that does just that, Ironwood Tree Experience.”
